ALMOST TWO months after it suspended visa services in Canada over its Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegation of a potential Indian link to the killing of Canada-based Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh NijjarIndia resumed e-visa services for Canadian nationals on Wednesday.

“Indian eVisa facility has been restored with effect from November 22, 2023, for all eligible Canadian citizens,” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa tweeted.

Last month, India had restored visa services in several categories including entry visa, business visa, medical visa and conference visa. But tourist visas have still not been restored for Canadian citizens.

India resumed issuing e-visas for Canadian tourists and business travelers on Wednesday two months after it suspended such services following a row over Ottawa’s accusation of possible Indian government involvement in the murder of a Canadian Sikh separatist leader.

Although the move is likely to ease tensions slightly, relations between the two countries are not expected to improve significantly in the near future.

NEW DELHI: India resumed on Wednesday e-visa services for Canadians that it had stopped in September after the diplomatic spat over Ottawa’s claims of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. E-visas are meant for tourism, business, conference and medical purposes. The government had last month also resumed in-person services for some visa categories, following assurances from Canadian authorities of enhanced security for Indian diplomats.
