One of the challenges for the Indonesian economy in utilizing the demographic bonus is the low quality of economic growth, especially providing employment opportunities for the community.

This was conveyed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi when giving a speech at the closing event of the 2023 Job Fair and Higher Education Expo which was held by the Alumni Association (IKA) of the State University of Malang, East Java, Friday (8/9/2023).

Secretary General Anwar said that the characteristics of Indonesia’s economic growth continue to change, where Indonesian industry is dominated by capital-intensive industries rather than labor-intensive industries.

“Due to the large number of capital-intensive industries, the unemployment rate is increasingly open, and poverty still oppresses some of the population,” said Anwar Sanusi

Secretary General Anwar explained that data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that the open unemployment rate in February 2023 reached 5.45 percent, which was a decrease of 0.38 percent compared to February 2022.
